My favorite part whenever a new straw hat joins the crew is watching their unraveling, as they realize that these freaks are always at an 11 and they cannot bring it down. At first they’re like, oh god how am I gonna handle this?? Then, they slowly start losing it until they’re also at a constant 11 and cannot bring it down.

Hey there lovelies! Here we are, at the end of the weekend again. Hopefully you got some good rest, or had some good clowning, or generally just had some time to yourself.

I have a bit of an odd question for you tonight, and that is --

Have you thought about Little You lately? About the little person you were years ago when you were younger? Little You could be a kid, or a teenager, or really anyone you were before today. Do you know how much Little You loves you? Do you know how proud they are of you for getting this far? Even if you're not in the place you want to be, that younger you is so grateful you're still here, and you're still trying. Little You loves you more than anyone else on this planet-- even if you didn't love yourself when you were them. They are still rooting for you every single day. Little You can see how far you've come, and Little You forgives you for all the things you hold against yourself. Remember to give your Little You a hug sometime, they're always here for you if you need them. Sometimes Little You's need the you you are now to help them heal the places they were in at the time--sometimes you're not ready for that, and that's totally okay too. One day you will be, and Little You will still be there, still loving you, and still rooting for you, and you can give them love right back when you're ready. You are wonderful, and unique, and beautiful, and brilliant and always have been lovelies---when you were Little You, and how you are today.

Even if your brain tells you otherwise sometimes-- You are so very loved, and you always have that Little You in your court if you need them. Feel free to exchange hugs with them whenever you need it, they're always there. I'm thinking of you lovelies, take care of yourselves and get some rest -- tomorrow is a new day.

I was talking about this on a call the other day but one of my favorite things about Sea of Thieves is that the characters are allowed to be ugly and so wildly diverse. Even the skeletons are diverse and have compelling and fun designs.

Note that when I say ugly I don’t mean that as a bad thing - I’m a firm believer that ugly doesn’t have to be a bad word, just the same as fat doesn’t have to be. Nobody’s perfect and that’s beautiful etc etc, when I say ugly I mean “not conventionally attractive” and it’s something I wholeheartedly appreciate

Like. Player pirates are randomly generated, which can be frustrating but at the end of the day it’s refreshing to not be able to sit and put together the perfect pirate. There will always be little scars or nicks or features you didn’t choose to place there, but they’re your pirates’ features. Just a couple days ago I realized my pirate has a snake bite on her cheek, and I LOVE that it’s there, though I never would have considered it for her had I been given the option to build her from scratch.

The NPCs, too, are diverse, and allowed to be flawed, and ugly. With their crooked or missing teeth and imperfect proportions and scars and asymmetrical faces - Rare could have very easily chosen to make every last NPC a perfectly pretty face fit for a magazine, and they chose not to. It makes the characters feel a little more real, more like they’re people - I can’t tell you how often I sit and examine the models of NPCs to look at every little detail and just appreciate how imperfect they are.

And like previously stated - and perhaps the thing I appreciate the most - even the skeleton characters are widely varied. Rathbone moves with a hunched posture that hides the fact his frame is fairly small, Grimm is tall and wide in that way that Sea of Thieves builds their fat characters, one of Chi’s horns is growing from her eye socket and she’s lankier than Ruth’s sturdy frame, Horatio has arms that are just a little too long, so on and so forth.

Just… Sure, I don’t by any means love Rare as a company, but the character design we see in Sea of Thieves is some of the best I’ve ever seen. I have a lot of love for this pirate game and the amount of love the design team put into every single character they offer us

GUYS. HEAR ME OUT. SAILOR NATE X SIREN ROWAN.

I would like to state first of all idc if sirens can be men or not. ALSO I'm not using the accurate Greek mythology siren (half-bird half-human), I'm using merfolk bc they're fun and I already have so many merfolk aus for rownate. Moving on.

Rowan is swimming when he sees this ship sailing past. So, like any siren, he decides to have a little fun and drown some sailors! The first one he sees on the deck is his first target, which so HAPPENS to be Nate.

Rowan sings to the quite handsome sailor, an alluring and tempting song. His voice his most prized achievement. But.... The sailor doesn't even spare him a glance.

He's confused, watching the man continue working and doing.. something on the deck. Did he put wax in his ears? Rowan had heard stories of humans doing that to protect themselves. He decides to swim closer and sing LOUDER.

Upon further inspection: 1, this man is VERY attractive, and 2, he has NO WAX IN HIS EARS! The man turns to look his way, making eye control with Rowan, JUST to return to his work!

This cannot be happening. Has his song grown boring? Shrill? Why wasn't this human looking at him longer? Rowan should've had him drowned by now. Not only does Rowan take this as a hit to his ego, but he's unbelievably intrigued. He needs to get a closer look at this human.

He attempts to talk to the human, persistent until he answers out of sheer annoyance, and by god his voice is wonderful, too! Even while angry, this boy sounds amazing. Rowan wants to hear him speak more.

They talk for as long as the human will allow, though Nate never becomes more welcoming and Rowan never actually learns his name. But now that Rowan has become hooked (and STILL DOESNT have an answer to why this man is somehow immune to his song) he decides to follow his ship to talk to him more!!

He follows and follows, attempting conversations whenever the man is on deck alone. The first time Rowan saw him on deck with another crew member, he decided he was just going to drown the other man to talk to the human alone! Why not? He hasn't had a chance to drown anyone in foreverrr (a few days at most), and maybe part of him needs validation that his song still works.... but Nate shuts that down quick. As soon as his crewmate begins to be entranced, Nate saves him and throws him under the deck, where he can't jump off the sides. Then Rowan gets a lecture on trying to drown his colleagues.

Now, why would a mythical sea creature listen to some sailor, you ask? Why would a mythical creature listen to a lecture from a human? Who knows. Rowan isn't sure why he's listening, either. But now he is! Look at him, not drowning the human's coworkers.

You would think if Nate was so annoyed he'd try to avoid talking to Rowan at all/become unresponsive/even make sure to ALWAYS be accompanied on deck, but somehow they continue talking. They talk when Nate's working alone, and slowly Rowan can coax facts about the human out. That aren't his name, of course. They get to know each other LIIIITTLE by little, and Rowan even ends up following Nate to his ports! Waiting for that cute sailor boy to come back and talk to him. Eventually, Nate even stops having an air of anger and annoyance when talking to Rowan! Which is a win for him.

Thinking about that newscoo from the live action. Do you think that he believes that he’s the first crewmate of the notorious strawhat pirate crew? Chopper wasn’t there to translate, maybe he said yes to Luffy’s invitation. Maybe Luffy knows that coo is a part of the crew. Maybe the crew’s all talking about how they joined and Zoro says something like, “no matter how good your cooking is, waiter, I’ll always be his first crewmate” and Luffy just laughs.

“Silly Zoro! You were my second crewmate!”

“Oh yeah who was the first then, huh?”

Luffy points out onto the deck. There is a newscoo dressed cartoonishly like a pirate. Ever loyal to his captain.

The bird dreams of setting his fellow birds free from Morgan’s clutches (perhaps settling down at the all blue with Sanji).

You select the second oldest of the available files. An observation log — COLONY keeps these, or so you assume. He never leaves commentary or notes to organize them. He probably just memorizes them instead. The terminal beeps beneath your fingertips, every click practically a gunshot in the quiet room. Thanks to your pass you are technically permitted to be here by the system — but you know better. There are security measures here that were not to be violated. If you are discovered, if THIS is discovered, you would likely be in trouble. The screen loads. Text fills the margins. After a moment, you realize that it is not just a file; it’s a transcript and an audio sample. There’s also a small attachment of some kind, likely an image. You play the audio.

[LOADING. . . (A short period of complete silence. Then, rustling as footsteps approach, and the familiar whir of a door. A familiar voice fades in with them.) “… I told you, it isn’t going to work.” “So you’ve said, Captain.” (The door whirs again. Locks.) “Please don’t call me that. Everyone keeps calling me that. Really I mean, I don’t even know what to do with…” (The sound of movement. Footsteps, slightly heavier but more measured than the first. The sound of something opening with a mechanical hiss — a containment unit?) (A quiet sigh. It’s barely audible.) “That… isn’t what I think. Right? Another one?” (A chuckle.) “Don’t sound so unenthusiastic. It’s terrible for morale.” “Le—“ “Just put them on, won’t you? It can’t hurt. One more trial.” “… Fine! Fine.” (The footsteps draw closer.) “Good. Now grab my hand.” (A clang, like somebody knocked into something.) “No.” “Trust me.” (Rapidly receding footsteps joined by another set.) “No!”(A loud bang, like a fist slamming against metal. The footsteps stop.) “No.” “It’ll be fine.” “You don’t know that.” “I’m right.” “This isn’t the answer. It isn’t going to — it’ll never be the answer, Leander, and I don’t even know what it — you know you can’t, right? Can’t come back? Doing this won’t let you see her agai——!“ “Captain.” (Silence.) “… shit. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean that.” “Prove it.” ”Leander, please.” “Grab my hand. This will work.” “…” “I swear.” (The seconds tick by. Then.) “You...” (Another chuckle. Warmer in tone.) “Didn’t I say I would do it? Didn’t I promise?” (Laughter. Loud, nearly hysterical laughter interrupts him. It’s boisterous, disruptive.) “You did! You did, you… you magnificent bastard, you really found a way to———“] The audio ends. You stare at the screen. No matter how long you look at it, the text does not continue, the audio file does not extend. All that remains is a single attachment. Frustration makes your jaw tense, but you don’t have time to waste being angry. You’re running out the clock as it is. You click it. [LOADING. . .]

And then the screen goes dark. No. Not just the screen — the whole room blacks out. Every terminal flickers off, every bulb extinguishes. For a moment, there is total, unfamiliar silence. Even the faint electric buzzing that comes with electronics is gone. You are completely alone. You turn, grasping blindly at the records pass, the imprint of the screen still on your eyes. You stumble for the door, and to your surprise the pass blinks green, the only light left in the room. It opens and you shove your way through into the hall — Only to slam into a barrier. You look around. There is no hallway. Of all times for the paths to shift… The room you are in is tiny. The door behind you closes, and there is no scanner on your side, nor a handle. It is completely featureless. There is no way to open it. You call for COLONY. There is no answer. You call for the Captain. There is no answer. You call for help. You call for help. You call. You call. you. c a l l. . . . . . . . . . [YOU CANNOT BE TRUSTED.] [. . . ] [THE CAPTAIN WILL LOOK FOR YOU.] [. . .] [BUT THE CAPTAIN WILL NOT FIND YOU.] [ . . . ] [I AM SORRY.] [I AM SURE THAT MEANS LITTLE. i love lusopp, platonic romantic whatever, but theyre two guys who are always holding hands whenever theyre in the same room. they do not notice this is a thing they do, and all their friends think YOURE the weird one for bringing it up in any way

thinking again about how easily moulded shepard can be esp if you catch him pre-mass effect 1.. thinks about how good he is at surviving and Enduring more than anything else... the complete irrationality and extreme limits he will go to when it comes to those he has handed his loyalty over to (for better or for worse). Finding friendship and faith in the Normandy crew and to people like Anderson made his story and narrative a good one and kept him in line but this was all coincidence. it could've easily been a miserable and horrific story
